MTA Planning Documents

Who is MTA?

MTA is the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, also called Metro.

This agency serves as transportation planner and primary transit operator for Los Angeles County. It is governed by a 13-member Board of Directors including the five Los Angeles County Supervisors, the Mayor of Los Angeles and three members appointed by the mayor, and four city council members representing the other 87 cities in Los Angeles County. The Governor of California appoints one non-voting member.

MTA develops the Long Range Transportation Plan for Los Angeles County and implements many of its investment decisions. MTA also operates a fleet of over 2000 buses throughout the county as well as the Red Line subway and several light rail lines.
